Sweat-Sensing Car Seats in Accident Prevention
Nissan has revealed a new technology.
The sweat-sensing car seat (known as Soak) can, according to Nissan, assist with vehicle accident prevention. The seat has the ability to analyze a driver’s perspiration to detect high salt levels, which may be an indicator of dehydration. Research conducted by the European Hydration Institute and Loughborough University suggests that dehydrated drivers are as “error-prone” as those who have been drinking alcohol. Read the rest »
Motorcyclist Killed in Oklahoma City Construction Zone Accident
A fatal motorcycle crash was recently reported in Oklahoma City. A 48-year-old man was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on I-235 approaching a construction work zone. He apparently slowed down and was hit in the rear by a Chevrolet. The man, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene. Investigators are still reviewing the details of the collision. Autonomous Trucks—Are They Safer?
Autonomous vehicles have the potential to improve transportation of both goods and passengers.
Self-driving vehicles are likely to emerge in the commercial trucking sector, a large segment of the economy that is responsible for transporting 70% of all freight, which translates to over 10 billion tons. You Don’t Have to Wear a Helmet While Riding a Motorcycle—But Should You?
Motorcycling has its own “gear.” Riders usually wear long sleeves and pants, gloves, boots, and some wear a helmet.
According to the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), Department of Transportation-approved helmets improve rider safety. The effectiveness of helmets has been documented in studies for many years, and the MSF strongly suggests that riders make the responsible choice. Volkswagen Faces More Recall Woes
The wave of automobile recalls has continued in 2017 with Volkswagen now conducting a recall on 281,000 vehicles across the U.S. for a potential problem involving fuel pump failure. This applies exclusively to models with gasoline-powered 4-cylinder engines, including the 2009–2016 CC models and the 2006–2010 Passat models. Records show that there is a potential electric outage in the module that controls the fuel pump. This lack of power results in a sudden stoppage of flowing fuel, which stalls the engine, stopping the vehicle in its tracks. Read the rest »
Left Leaning Drivers, Beware
The Oklahoma legislature recently passed House Bill 2312, which has been signed by the Governor and will take effect on November 1, 2017.
