By Car Accident Help on September 16, 2015

Oklahoma Truck AccidentAnother deadly tractor trailer accident has resulted in charges against the semi truck driver. According to Oklahoma City’s NBC affiliate KFOR, the tractor trailer operator who plowed into a bus and killed four college students has been charged with manslaughter.

The crash happened on September 26th of last year when a semi truck traveling down Interstate 35 in Murray County crossed a grassy median and slammed into a bus carrying a women’s softball team from North Central Texas College. The team was heading home after playing a game against Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma. Four young women were killed, ranging in age from 18 to 20. The driver, who worked for Quickway Transportation Inc., told authorities he had been distracted by something in his cab. An article from Bloomberg Business reported that a marijuana pipe and prescription drugs were found among the driver’s possessions.

Tractor trailers are large, heavy, and dangerous. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that in 2012 there were 124 large truck accidents that resulted in deaths in Oklahoma.
