Nine Injured in Oklahoma City Bus-Truck Collision

By on August 11, 2014 | Posted in: Bus Crash

Nine people were injured in an Oklahoma City traffic accident involving a collision between a Greyhound bus and a semi truck. According to a News 9 report, the truck and bus accident occurred on I-40 eastbound just west of the Amarillo junction in Oklahoma City. Officials have not released information regarding what caused the bus and truck to collide. All nine of the injured victims were transported to nearby hospitals with minor injuries. It is unclear how the accident could have been prevented or if anyone will face charges for the crash.

Many Oklahoma residents rely on public buses for transportation on a regular basis. In general, traveling by bus is relatively safe. However, when a bus accident occurs, it can result in a significant number of injuries because passengers are provided very little in terms of safety features. Since they are not protected by seatbelts or airbags, it is common for bus passengers to suffer:

  • Soft tissue neck injuries
  • Bone fractures
  • Wrist injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Contusions
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Severe back injuries

Whenever a bus accident results in physical injuries to passengers, it must be determined what caused the accident and who was responsible. A significant number of Oklahoma bus accidents are the direct result of driver negligence. Bus drivers can cause accidents by operating the bus while distracted, speeding, merging without checking mirrors, failing to obey traffic signals, and by veering off the roadway. Bus drivers whose inexperience or negligence contributes to a crash can be held accountable for the injuries they cause.

If you have been injured in an Oklahoma bus accident, you may be able to pursue financial compensation for your losses as well as your pain and suffering and other related damages. It is not advisable, however, to accept a settlement offer without discussing your rights and options with an experienced Oklahoma personal injury attorney.
